I’m proud to present the latest jewelry design contest winner: Odin’s knot by Kai Mock.
Here are a few words about the design:
“Odin, the cheif Norse God hung upside-down in a tree for nine days and nine nights in order to discover the Runes, the path into knowledge and prophecy for human beings, sacrificing himself for knowledge. Odin’s Knot, or the Valknut, simplified can be drawn with one stroke, making it wonderful for protection. The three triangles and nine points reference pregnancy and rebirth or reincarnation, a popular theme of nordic mythology. They also reference the nine domains encompassed in heaven, earth and hell in Nordic mythology. Also, as another from of knot, they symbolize the interconnectedness and oneness of all aspects of life. Odin’s quest and sacrifice for not only knowledge but wisdom inspires me to pursue my dreams of becoming a teacher and learn more than just facts, but learn how to think, and explore my own destiny and prophecy.

Hey everyone!
I’m happy to announce the latest winner of my jewelry model design contest and also the last winner for 2007 - Mystical thoughts of Inner Dreams.
This model was designed by Aez Bernal and here is what he wrote about it:
“Are you searching for something? is there something in your mind that you want, but you dont know what it is..something that you feels fulfilling.. This Pendant symbolizes, an Icon of a Lizard that promotes dreaming or inner thoughts. both are searching for one another. they stand in one stone vice versa, somehow closer but in different plane. searching for one another with the thoughts of finding something that could fulfill their inner dreams. ”

I’ve chosen the design “Fish” by Naeeme Ghafoori Seydani from Iran as the winner in my jewelry design contest. Here is what he wrote about the design:
“My country (IRAN) is a dry place so in my culture water and everything that is related to water is holy; fish is a symbol of life, food and moving. And also it is a symbol of attracting love. This necklace is used to bring luck for love and marriage, finding a good job and being wealthy. I use shell, because it is natural and comes from the sea - brings calmness for all of us.”
I think choosing this design shows how spirituality and art can bring people closer even when their countries don’t allow it. (I still have to figure out how I’m going to send him his prize since there is no mail service between Israel and Iran…)

This pendant was designed by Joe Zastrow who won David’s jewelry design contest of February-March 2007. It contains one of the methods to sketch the Golden Mean of Phi (1.618….). It also contains (on top) the Greek letter Phi, representing the divine proportion.
Phi is a constant value which is even more mysterious and profound in its implications than pi (3.14…). Like pi, phi is a number with no arithmetical solution - The decimals just keep on going into infinity without ever repeating themselves. The unique thing about this number is that it can be found incorporated in all known organic structures: From the bone structure of human beings; through the seed pattern of a sunflower; to the spiral of a sea shell, the phi proportion is there, underlying all biological structures, seeming to be a geometrical blueprint for life itself. Plato went so far as to call the phi ratio the “key to the physics of the cosmos”.
